Analysis of Microdata
Stefan Boes, Rainer Winkelmann
This book is about the theory and practice of modeling microdata using statistical and econometric methods, in particular regression type models, in the context of large crosssection samples. Hence, models and methods are needed that go beyond the standard linear regression model and ordinary least squares. The maximum likelihood approach is introduced as the unifying principle for modeling, estimating and interpreting conditional probability models for microdata relationships. The purpose of this book is to motivate and introduce these models and methods, and to illustrate them in a number of applications. The book includes numerous illustrations, tables as well as exercises. The employed datasets are available on the authors homepage www.unizh.ch/sts/. The book is directed at advanced undergraduate students or students in Master or first-year Ph.D. courses in economics or related disciplines, as well as researchers and practitioners using microdata in their work.
